From Tragedy to Triumph!
On February 15th, 2018 I was involved in a terrible shotgun accident that resulted in losing my leg. Determined not to let it get me down, I was back in the gym in 3 months. I was limited to what I could do, of course, but I didn’t let that stop me. My goal was to compete in powerlifting a year from the date of losing my leg. This was an unrealistic goal at one point, but I pushed through and got stronger.
In February of 2019 I was invited to compete in the Powerlifting World Championships held in Salt Lake City, Utah. The event is called Fitcon, and it’s an invitational only. Although I wasn’t lifting a whole lot of weight at the time, I was excited to give it my all. I competed, I had a blast, and I took 1st in my division! I was ecstatic,of course!
Facing adversity is a challenge, no matter who you are. It’s through determination, will, desire , courage, faith and prayer that I was able to push through 5 months of 14 surgeries, 3 infections, and still make my goal of competing a year after losing my leg!
